I began at the kitchen bench with a sketchpad, some student acrylics, a roll of wallpaper and a few brushes. I was drawn to the land forms, the rocks and cliffs and driftwood sculptures of coastal Taranaki, where I grew up. It was their teasing immutability that I wanted to capture.
With age, I seek serenity and so when I sense this in the world around me I want to re-create it on canvas. Sometimes though, images come to me in the middle of the night. The challenge then is to develop the technical skills needed to express the feelings and ideas in a way that is satisfying to me.
