A concern for the environment and the future of the planet is welded to a vision in which the wounded and the whole, light and dark, even life and death are brought together. Uli Christoffersen's interest in sculpture began in her native Berlin. While training to be a potter, Uli soon found that her real interest was sculpture. Then, thirty years ago, a passion for ferns and especially the punga drew her to New Zealand. While digging the local red terracotta clay Uli fell in love with Coromandel, where she now lives and works. Her garden, lush with plants and dotted with sculpture, is open to the public over the summer months. Over time, Uli's work has taken her into a variety of media, beginning with fired clay sculpture and now incorporating cast bronze, cement and multi media.
